National Health Assembly adopts resolution for total ban on chrysotile asbestos in Thailand
β SourceThailand
No ban despite a 2011 Cabinet resolution endorsing a total chrysotile ban. The National Health Assembly adopted a ban resolution in 2010, endorsed by Cabinet in April 2011, mandating the Ministry of Industry to implement immediately. However, opposition from manufacturers and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry blocked implementation. The Chrysotile Information Centre made legal threats against ban campaigners in 2012. National consumption has reduced but no prohibitions have been implemented.
