SENTINEL ARCHIVE / CASE #121

Myanmar

No national ban on asbestos. Asbestos-cement products are used in the construction sector, primarily for roofing. Myanmar had domestic asbestos sheet production but production data shows it declined to near zero by 2017. Limited regulatory infrastructure and ongoing political instability have prevented progress on asbestos regulation. Asbestos use continues in the region alongside other Southeast Asian countries without bans.
